Hom Bahadur Khadka decided to wait for no one. After losing his home, savings and belonging, and realizing the help doesn’t come- he started rebuild his home on his own.
“Just a few months ago officers came with a couple bundles of corrugated sheets, then I said to that officer; “Pohor maryo sasu ani ahile aayo aasu?”[Nepali old: “You lost your mother-in-law last year and now you are crying?”] “You were not worried about the people at all and after 8 months you are coming here to distribute corrugated sheets? Don’t you feel ashamed? We are surviving without this…. I told them….”
“Can you see the white tower on top of that hill? My house was there. But I lost everything. And nobody came for our relief until last month. So I built it on my own. It’s all from the same stones, same soil, same doors and same windows. If the government gives then I will take, if not, then it doesn’t matter. I don’t have any wish to take and eat”.
